May Round-Up

Sunshine, Stories, and Creative Sparks

May has felt like a month of renewal in so many ways.

As book lovers, we are entering one of the most exciting periods of the publishing year, with an incredible number of new releases appearing. Every time I open social media, browse publisher catalogues, or visit a bookshop, another must-read title seems to be calling my name. My TBR pile certainly isn’t getting any smaller, but honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

One of the greatest joys this month has been the weather – haven’t we been spoilt with the sun and warmth. After what felt like an endless stretch of cold, grey, and rain-soaked winter days, being able to step outside with a book/kindle and actually read in the sunshine has been nothing short of wonderful. There is something magical about finding a comfortable spot in the garden or public space feeling the warmth of the sun, and losing yourself in a story while birdsong fills the background. It’s one of those simple pleasures that reminds me why I love reading so much.

Looking back to the end of April, I was also fortunate enough to meet the fabulous author Hannah Lynn. It was such a lovely experience to chat with someone whose stories have brought enjoyment to so many readers. Meeting authors always gives me a renewed appreciation for the creativity, dedication, and hard work that goes into bringing books to life, and Hannah was every bit as warm and inspiring as I had hoped.

That inspiration has followed me into May as I’ve spent much of the month knuckling down and focusing on developing my own novel. While writing is often talked about in terms of word counts and productivity, I’ve found myself concentrating far more on the creative side of the process recently – designing my book cover and promotion banner. Exploring characters, discovering new layers to the story, and allowing ideas the space they need to grow has been incredibly rewarding. The chapter outlines are almost completed ready to expand on over the next few weeks as my imagination goes into overdrive.

There is something special about that stage of writing where possibilities seem endless. Some ideas work, others don’t, but every scene, every conversation, and every revision helps shape the world I’m creating. It’s challenging, exciting, and occasionally frustrating—but above all, it’s creatively fulfilling. The only thing I’ve regretted so far is not making a note of an idea I think of in the middle of the night, then wake up in the morning totally oblivious to what it was.

As we move into June, I’m looking forward to more fantastic book releases, plenty more outdoor reading sessions, and continuing to develop my novel one chapter at a time.

I hope you’ve had a wonderful May filled with great books, sunny moments, and perhaps a little creativity of your own.

Happy reading.
